About The Artist

Joan Adam is interpretive contemporary painter based in Scottsdale and Chandler, Az. renowned for her vibrant unique color combinations in encaustic, oil, watercolor, and acrylic mediums. She began her career while living in Ohio as a watercolorist inspired by her mentors Diane Boldman and Fred Leach, two prominent artists there. She built upon her watercolor foundation once she moved to Santa Barbara by attending Santa Barbara College of Fine Arts as well as apprenticing with Janice Upkin and Susan Butler in Ojai, Ca. expanding into abstract mixed media art. Once her children were grown, she moved to Oakland, Ca. and continued her art education at Cal Berkeley as well as Studio One in Oakland. She has exhibited and has been commissioned extensively throughout California, New York, and Arizona. She has been featured in the past at Las Lagunas, Saatchi, Camelback as well as Andrea's Art Gallery in Scottsdale to mention a few. Her encaustic painting entitled, "Enchanted Forest" is in the permanent collection at the Encaustic Artists Institute Museum in New Mexico.

The Scottsdale Artists League has recently announced her permanent move to the Phoenix area and are proud to call her one of their own most up and coming artists of interest. Her work is characterized by her bold interpretation and fresh approach to desert landscapes and wildlife painting drawing inspiration from everyday experience of life here in the Sonoran Desert.
